New Look hires former Zara product boss

New Look has appointed Paula Dumont Lopez, formerly head of product at Zara Basic, as its new chief creative officer.

Dumont Lopez is currently senior vice president and head of Esprit Woman, a role she has held since 2013. She will join the board of New Look in September.

She previously worked at Inditex for 10 years, joining as a fabric buyer for Zara Basic and working her way up to head of product for the same brand.

At New Look she will replace Roger Wightman, who will remain on the board and and assume a part-time consultancy role. Wightman has worked at New Look for 27 years.

Chief executive Anders Kristiansen said Dumont Lopez’s ”expertise in identifying trends and leadership experience in product, buying and design” would be an asset to the business.

As exclusively revealed by Drapers earlier this month, New Look’s menswear director Christopher Englinde and women’s footwear, accessories and beauty director Amanda Wain have both left the business.

New Look’s underlying operating profits tumbled 44% to £97.6m in the 52 weeks to 25 March 2017 as the retailer vowed to be faster on delivering trends and reduce its reliance on discounting. Revenue fell 2.4% to £1.45bn.
