New Look in U-turn over new chief creative officer

Former Zara head of product Paula Dumont López will not be joining New Look as chief creative officer, the retailer has announced.

The news comes 10 days after New Look chief executive Anders Kristiansen exited the high street retailer after five years in the top job.

The board of New Look said it had reviewed its buying, merchandising and design priorities, and decided not to hire Dumont López.

Instead, Roger Wightman will continue in his current role as chief creative officer.

In an exclusive interview with Drapers last month, New Look heralded Dumont López’s appointment as a cornerstone of its new strategy to focus on delivering trends faster, reduce the retailer’s reliance on discounting and cater to a younger customer.

Dumont Lopez is currently senior vice president and head of Esprit Woman, a role she has held since 2013. She was due to join the board of New Look later this month.

She previously worked at Inditex for 10 years, joining as a fabric buyer for Zara Basic and working her way up to head of product for the brand.
