Zara has been knocked off the top spot by New Look as the most popular fashion retailer on the high street, a survey out today revealed.
The retailer has slipped to second place in the rankings, behind New Look for the first time since it launched in December 2012.
The findings are based on a study of 10,000 British women carried out by fashion recommendation site Dressipi as part of its twice-yearly Fashion Brands Index (FBI).
New Look narrowly made it to the top of the list, with 24% of people surveyed saying it was their favourite high street shop, compared to 23% who chose Zara followed by H&M at 21%.
While Zara’s percentage was unchanged from the June FBI, and third placed H&M has only dropped one point, New Look has leapt three places and scooped up an extra 5% share of the vote from its high street rivals.
Dressipi founder Sarah McVittie said: “Just a year ago it looked like Zara had the rest of the high street on the run, but the latest Fashion Brands Index shows that a year is a very long time in fashion. New Look has been an increasingly important force in UK fashion for a while now, but really broke through in 2013 with strong spring and summer collections and a couple of smart celebrity collaborations, including one with Kelly Brook”.
Taking up the fourth and fifth spots in the December FBI study were Topshop and Next respectively, the latter climbing one place since June.
