Former New Look group buying and design director for footwear and accessories Malcolm Collins has joined Shoe Zone as a non-executive director with immediate effect.

Collins joined New Look in 1997. During his 16 years at the retailer he oversaw its £550m footwear division, and developed its footwear supply base sourcing from China, Vietnam and Europe.

Before New Look, Collins spent 23 years at Clarks in various roles, including 13 years as a women’s footwear buyer.

After leaving New Look in 2013, Collins worked as a consultant.

Anthony Smith, executive chairman of Shoe Zone, said: “[Collins’] industry knowledge and buying expertise will be invaluable to the board as we continue to grow our footwear range through and our ‘big box’ concept.”

The news follows a reshuffle at Shoe Zone announced earlier this week.

Chief finance officer Nick Davis has become chief executive of the value footwear retailer, while former CEO Smith has become executive chairman.

Smith replaces the company’s existing non-executive chairman, Ian Filby, who is stepping down after joining the board at the time of the flotation in 2014.
