John Lewis sales rose by 3.7% to £72.55m for the week ended 28 January compared to the same period last year, with fashion sales rising 5.5%.
It was a good uplift for the final week of the trading year, said operations director Dino Rocos.
“All three buying areas [fashion, electricals and home] posted increases, with fashion leading the way, up 5.5%. Within fashion, the new season was starting to see an impact as womenswear was up 11.4% and menswear was up 3.8%.
Fashion sales are up by 4.5% for the 26 weeks to date, behind electricals and home technology at 5.8%, but in front of home, up 2.5%.
