New season ranges boost John Lewis fashion sales

Fashion sales at John Lewis for the week to 5 August grew 4.5% on the same period last year, with men’s and womenswear both seeing an uplift.

Menswear sales increased by 8% while womenswear was up 4.2%. John Lewis said new lines for autumn 17 performed “particularly strongly”.

Fashion sales were also driven by a “strong” performance in beauty, wellbeing and leisure, which climbed by 8.6%. Fragrance was singled out as a standout performer.

Total sales for the week rose 5.5% to £77.7m. The department store said both shops and online saw a boost in sales compared with the same period in 2016.
