Royal Mail International has introduced a tracked returns service for Australian consumers, after finding that many shop on UK websites.
The delivery company’s research into online shopping trends in Australia found that 30% of shoppers purchase from a UK site. Their average spend is $70 (£39) a month.
The top three categories for online purchasing are clothes (39%), books (24%) and holidays/travel (17%)
Of those shopping on UK sites, 12% said they had returned an item.
The new tracked returns service aims “to increase customer confidence and peace of mind, alongside giving retailers greater visibility of their stock”.
When returned items arrive in the UK, they are delivered to the designated “returns” address via Royal Mail’s tracked domestic network.
In a statement Royal Mail said: “Australia is an attractive market for exporters. The country has high internet penetration, widespread use of English as a main language and a high potential for international ecommerce sales.”
