Next boss calls for greater clarity on Brexit

Lord Wolfson, chief executive of Next, has urged the government to clarify its plans for the Brexit, saying that it would be “helpful” to have a clearer vision of the principles of the Brexit strategy.

Lord Wolfson backed the campaign to leave the European Union before the referendum, and was one of the few business leaders to do so. He has previously cautioned against an isolationist course on Brexit, and is now calling for more detail from the government before they enter into Brexit negotiations, The Guardian reports.

“It would be helpful to understand the principles and objectives of the government with which they are going to enter negotiations,” he said. “There is uncertainty around Brexit but I would much rather that the government came up with a good plan than something rushed out to get rid of people worried about uncertainty. It would be a mistake to rush it. “

The comments came as Next announced disappointing trading results over the Christmas period – full-price sales for the fourth quarter slipped 0.4% year on year.
