Next opens mammoth Midlands store

Next has opened one of its biggest stores in the UK as part of Intu’s £100m transformation of its Merry Hill centre in the West Midlands.

The 55,000 sq ft store includes a Lipsy concession, a Costa Coffee and a homeware department, alongside Next’s traditional men’s, women’s and kid’s wear ranges.

It is almost double the size of the previous Next store at Merry Hill.

Nick Round, regional managing director at Intu, said the new store was a “vote of confidence” for Merry Hill as a retail destination: “Many of the UK’s most popular retailers are opening bigger stores across our portfolio of prime retail destinations, where they can showcase their full product range and reach a high proportion of their target customers.

”We work closely with brands like Next and Primark to build space where they can flourish as part of our creative asset management strategy”.

Primark is also set to open an extended new store at intu Merry Hill this year, by expanding into a former BHS to create 70% more space.

Other tenants at Merry Hill include River Island, Topshop, Topman and JD Sports.
