Next has signed a lease agreement to become the third anchor store at the Resorts World Birmingham leisure and entertainment complex at the NEC.
Taking a store measuring just under 10,000 sq ft, the retailer will join Nike and Gap at the £150m development, which has let 80% of its 50 units.
Around 100,000 sq ft of the complex’s 450,000 sq ft floor space will be dedicated to the retail outlet when it opens this summer.
Resorts World operates similar developments in the US, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. This will be the first to open in Europe.
Steve Myers, managing director of development for Genting UK, which owns Resorts World, said: “Next is one of the UK’s most popular and successful retail brands and we welcome them to the Resorts World development as one of the three anchor retail units. We are excited by these additions to the tenant mix, which is crucial to us as owner operators, and will shortly be announcing further high profile operators for the remaining retail and leisure space.”
In addition to the outlet, a 178-room four star boutique hotel and spa, cinema and casino are also being built.
