Next to post sales uplift

Next is expected to report a modest rise in sales for the third quarter, on the back of a boost from its Directory business.

The high street stalwart is predicted to unveil a 10% rise in Directory sales when it reports on Wednesday (1 November), offsetting a 5.3% decline in its bricks-and-mortar sales.

Analysts at HSBC have forecast a 1.8% rise in overall sales for the quarter.

Last month, Next announced that group profit before tax was down 9.5% for the six months to the end of July, while full-price sales dropped by 1.2% and total sales including markdowns were down 2.3% on last year.
