Nicola Jane buys lingerie rival

Multi-channel lingerie retailer Nicola Jane has snapped up rival Oops & Downes for an undisclosed sum. It bought the Leeds-based independent business, which includes a 2,000sq ft store and a mail order and internet arm, earlier this month.
Nicola Jane, which specialises in mastectomy underwear and has shops in London and Chichester, will retain the Oops & Downes fascia and name.

A spokeswoman said: “It’s a great opportunity for Nicola Jane to come to Leeds. We will keep the Oops & Downes name because it has built such a respected business in the city.”

She added that the takeover would allow Nicola Jane to expand its offer into more mainstream lingerie. Oops & Downes’ offer is split 50-50 between mastectomy and mainstream. It sells brands such as Panache, Chantelle, Simone Perele and Royce.

Oops & Downes owner Kim Downes sold the business to pursue other interests. She said: “Nicola Jane has the knowledge and experience to take it forward into the next phase of growth.”
