Nicole Farhi creative director Jo Sykes exits

Creative director of Nicole Farhi Jo Sykes has left the brand after less than two years.

Sykes, who joined the business in September 2012, has left to focus on new projects.

The outgoing creative director said: “I have always had great respect for Nicole Farhi. It’s been an honour to design for the label and continue her legacy of casual luxury. I wish the brand and the talented in house teams every success in the future.”

Sykes’ tenure coincided with a period of turbulence for the brand, which had lost chief executive Niki Scordi six months before. Her successor Francois Steiner lasted less than a year in the role and the company was put into administration in July 2013.

It was subsequently bought by Matalan heiress Maxine Hargreaves-Adams, who embarked on a turnaround plan to win back lost stockists.

She later hired former Lulu Guinness chief executive Martin Mason to take on the reins.

Before Nicole Farhi, Sykes was at Aquascutum for two years, during which time the luxury company also entered administration.

Previously she ran her own eponymous brand, which she closed on joining Aquascutum.
