Nicole Farhi wins First Woman Award

Fashion designer Nicole Farhi has been honoured with a lifetime achievement prize in the First Women Awards.

The First Women Awards, which have been running for four years, recognise genuine "glass ceiling breakers" in business and public life.

Nicole Farhi, who co-founded French Connection in 1972 before setting up her own business 10 years later, was praised as an "extraordinary entrepreneur" whose "outlook and brand are the antithesis of the throwaway culture".

The awards were judged by Baroness Sarah Hogg, chairman of private equity firm 3i, and writer and broadcaster Margaret Hefferman.
