Nike to open first standalone womenswear store in London

Nike is to open its first standalone womenswear store on London’s King’s Road in Chelsea in a bid to gain more of the female fitness market.

The sportswear giant opened two female-only stores in California and Shanghai in November, featuring key running, training and sportswear styles as well as designer collaborations. The stores also offer a studio for personal or group fitness sessions.

The stores are part of the brand’s larger retail strategy to serve women, said Nike in a statement.

Nike’s womenswear business currently accounts for approximately a fifth of its sales but this area is outperforming the rest of the business, according to the Evening Standard. The newspaper reported the store will open in May.

Canadian yogawear retailer Lululemon also opened a store on King’s Road at the end of January.
