Northampton University builds on footwear heritage with new workshop

The University of Northampton has opened a new footwear workshop to support its Footwear and Accessories BA course, which launched in September last year.

Northampton’s heritage of shoe and boot making dates back 900 years and over 25 manufacturers still operate in the area, including Dr Martens, Church & Co and Crockett & Jones.

Dr Julie King, subject leader for Fashion and Textiles at the University of Northampton, said: “We are delighted to have such an incredible resource now available to our footwear and accessories students. It will help them become more technically proficient than ever before and builds on the amazing footwear heritage of Northampton.”
