Notonthehighstreet.com has appointed Darren Shapland as chairman, joining former Tesco online managing director Simon Belsham who became chief executive of the online marketplace last month.
Shapland is currently chairman of Poundland, Topps Tiles and Maplin Electronics, as well as the non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee at bookmaker Ladbrokes and building supplies supplier Wolseley.
He was chief executive of Carpetright from 2012 to 2013 and previously held a number of senior roles at Sainsbury’s, including chief financial officer from 2005 and 2010 and group development director from 2010 to 2011. He held various roles at Burton Group from 1988 to 2000.
Belsham said Shapland’s “career experience and passion for retail will be beneficial to our business and the next phase in our ambitious growth plans”.
Notonthehighstreet.com employs more than 200 people from its headquarters in Richmond, southwest London, and offers more than 170,000 products including fashion and accessories from 5,000 UK businesses through its marketplace model.
Turnover increased from £134,000 in its first year in 2006 to £127m last year.
