Oliver Bonas is considering opening its first store outside of the UK next year as the contemporary fashion and homewares retailer enjoyed a rise in sales over Christmas.
Oliver Tress, founder and managing director of Oliver Bonas, told Drapers “the whole world is our oyster”, but would not be drawn on potential territories. A potential opening could be as soon as next year.
The 41-store retailer enjoyed a strong Christmas trading period, with like-for-like sales up 6% between December 22 to 29. Total sales jumped 37%.
Tress said the rise in sales showed that Oliver Bonas “could hold our own” against a backdrop of Sales across the high street.
He added: “We held our nerves. During December everyone had gone mad [for putting on Sales]. Each year there seems to be more discounting.
“If we continue to do well we will consider opening shops overseas.”
The company plans to open between six and 10 stores in the UK this year.
