O’Neill appoints new chief executive

O’Neill has appointed Jan Valdmaa as chief executive of the global boardsports brand. He replaces interim chief executive Tom Heidman.

Valdmaa previously held senior executive roles at Adidas, Helly Hansen and most recently as chairman of the board at Integrix Sports Group. Valdmaa is due to start at O’Neill on June 1 and will be based in the group’s offices in Warmond, the Netherlands.

Valdmaa said: “I’m delighted to be at the O’Neill Group as the company continues to move towards its goal of growing the O’Neill brand on a worldwide scale. O’Neill boasts such an enviable heritage in surf and snow.”

The O’Neill brand and the European licensee O’Neill Europe were merged into one company to form the O’Neill Group in May 2007, which was subsequently bought by Dutch fashion group Logo International.

Logo International chief executive Tom Heidman said: “I strongly believe that Jan’s breadth of experience in the lifestyle sports brands industry together with his equally impressive experience in change management make him exceptionally qualified.”
