Like-for-like sales at Bonmarché increased by 7.6% for the 13 weeks to 1 July compared with the second quarter of 2016, fuelled by strong online growth.
Online sales jumped 39% for the period, while like-for-like store sales were up 4.2%.
Bonmarché had 322 stores and concessions on 1 July, compared with 317 in the previous year.
The business said trading for the first quarter had been in line with expectations, which remain unchanged for the full year.
Helen Connolly, Bonmarché chief executive, said: “I am pleased with the improvement in trading and in particular the further progress in online sales. While we are in the early stages of implementing our strategy, I am encouraged by the positive response from customers to the developments in our ranges and the improvements we are making to the shopping experience.
“The improved sales performance during the first quarter, achieved in a clothing market that remains challenging, underpins our confidence in the strategy.”
