Online leather sales up 52%

The sale of leather goods online has soared by 52% year-on-year in the three months to October 15, as retailers invest in trans-seasonal fabrics.

In a report released by data analyst firm Editd, figures show the largest growth category was leather skirts, which increased by 86%.

The sale of leather dresses increased by 76%, outerwear was up 60%, trouser sales rose by 39% and shorts by 20%compared to the same period in 2012.

Although the majority of products sit between £150 and £722, the single price bracket with the highest number of options is £40 to £60, which grew by 164% year-on-year signalling the predominance of the mass market in the leather trend.
