Online shoppers spend record £767,500 in one minute

Shoppers spent a record £767,500 on the internet in a single minute yesterday, according to payment processing company Retail Decisions.

Retail Decisions, which processes card payments, said the surge in spending was expected to make yesterday Britain's biggest ever online spending day, with shoppers expected to spend £370 million during the day - 106% more than on the second Monday of December last year.

The record breaking minute took place over lunchtime, at 1.09pm.

The company said Christmas internet shopping peaks on Mondays as people buy online during their lunch break to save on trips to the high street.
