Original Penguin picks up Glasgow store

US menswear brand Original Penguin will open its first store in Glasgow at the Silverburn shopping centre in mid-August.

It will open a 1,205 sq ft store adjacent to the Debenhams department store anchor, in the unit previously occupied by jewellery retailer Ortak.

The store will be Original Penguin’s second in Scotland, alongside its existing store at the Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen. It now trades from more than 60 stores globally.

Original Penguin was founded in 1955. The Glasgow store will offer the full menswear collection including footwear, accessories and fragrance.

Francisco Hoffmann, managing director of Perry Ellis Europe, parent company of Original Penguin, said: “Original Penguin has a loyal following in Glasgow and we want the opportunity to display the entire lifestyle collections.”

David O’Neil, leasing executive at Hammerson, which owns Silverburn, added: “Original Penguin will drive footfall and joins a significant list of well-known brands in selecting Silverburn for new stores.”

CBRE and Culverwell advised Hammerson on Silverburn. Original Penguin dealt directly with the landlord.
