Original Shoe Co set for rejig

JJB Sports will give Original Shoe Company a supplier and management overhaul to drive growth into the branded young fashion business.
JJB Sports chief executive Chris Ronnie said the 60-store chain would be used to help develop a presence in the young branded fashion market. Ronnie will hunt for a new and dedicated management team for Original Shoe Company.

He said there was potential in the branded fashion market for the business and that he planned to retain third party brands alongside an own-label offer and a larger Nike and Adidas range.

The planned closure of 72 loss-making JJB stores was not a reaction to the current climate, he added.

Retail operating profit fell by 17.9% to £49.4 million for the year to January 27. JJB’s retail revenue fell by 1.2% to £745.4m, a like-for-like sales fall of 0.5%.
