Oxford Street lit up for Christmas

Last night saw Oxford Street’s Christmas lights switched on by singer Jessie J, with Selfridges hosting an evening reception for some of the street’s biggest retailers.

Jessie J turned on the lights following a performance by herself, last year’s X Factor winner James Arthur and singer Conor Maynard. The event was broadcast on ITV London.

The 2013 lights have been developed by New West End Company in consultation with their members. Designed by Portuguese company Castros, there are 1, 778 baubles along the street, lit up by 750,000 LED lights. The whole scheme is designed to look like falling snow.
