The Pantone Color Institute has identified 12 top colour trends for spring 2018 ahead of London Fashion Week, which kicks off at the end of this week.
Pink continues to be a key trend, with three shades - Blooming Dahlia, Pink Lavender and Rapture Rose – all making it on to the list. Other top colours were Cherry Tomato, a ‘tempestuous’ orangey red, light green Nile Green and Meadowlark, a bold yellow.
The report also includes four core classic shades which can transcend seasons, including navy Sailor Blue, dove grey Harbor Mist, neutral Warm Sand and off-white Coconut Milk.
Consumers are moving away from traditional colour guidelines, opting instead for ‘untypical’ spring shades and original combinations.
”Color’s increased influence in fashion design is being felt around the world. Designers for both the US and UK markets recognise the need to show more colour in their collections,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at the Pantone Color Institute.
“We broadened the direction for spring 2018 to satisfy the growing consumer appetite for flexibility of expression through colour. Unique shades for the London runway convey themes of energy, sophistication and serenity. There are multi-dimensional and grounded hues, while others exude a vibrant breath of fresh air.”
