Paris Fashion Week: 1950s pin-ups at Louis Vuitton

The 1950’s pin-up girl is back for autumn 10 at the iconic French label Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs, unleashed voluptuous supermodel beauties including Laetitia Casta, Bar Refaeli, Catherine McNeil, Karolina Kurkova, and Elle Macpherson at Paris Fashion Week yesterday in a collection that brought back the vintage glamour of the 1950s

Nipped-in waists, full calf-length skirts and sweetheart necklines gave an undisputed elegance to the Louis Vuitton autumn 10 show.
Reinterpretations of the iconic Vuitton ‘Speedy’ bag came in flocked and sequinned fabrics or were woven in metallic thread and finished with fox fur.

Matching jackets and dresses, fitted corset tops, single-breasted overcoats and double-breasted pea coats underlined daywear, while satin skirts and a voluminous chiffon strapless dress were among the highlights of the eveningwear options.

In terms of colour, the palettes were dark throughout. Mustard, olive green, black and navy were interspersed with powder pinks and blues.

Skinny belts wrapped around slender waists emphasised curves and a womanly shape.

The 1950s silhouette, always popular in vintage re-works, should provide some commercial trend inspiration for autumn 10.
