Paris Fashion Week: Last night pop star Lady Gaga took to the Mugler catwalk, reportedly causing such a stir it even made American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour smile.
In what was the most anticipated event of the Paris Fashion Week schedule, Lady Gaga took to the Mugler catwalk in immense platform heels, smoking, while wearing a triangle hat, with Rapunzel-long, blonde hair extensions falling over a sheer top with bra and cutaway details.
Her style was referenced throughout the show. The first model walked in a plunging black suit jacket which was cut to reveal a heaving bosom with pitched shoulders, reminiscent of Balmain autumn 09, but also of early Mugler and of the horn-like shoulders that Nicola Formichetti, Mugler’s creative director and Gaga’s stylist, has used on some of Gaga’s costumes in the past.
A white column dress with similar horn-like shoulder constructions also featured, as did an Eve Klein blue knitted dress with matching shiny tights. Satin breast plates featured on a sheer top, which ran into a pencil skirt and plastic shoulder casing sat atop a lemon dress, which underpinned the collections futuristic and cyber-like feel.
The show was striking, the clothes accomplished, but the thunder was well and truly stolen by Gaga, who has been forming a relationship with the French fashion house Mugler for some time.
Formichetti, as Gaga’s stylist, was responsible for creating some of the singer’s most ambitious on-and-off stage costumes, including her infamous meat dress.
Gaga also directed the music for Formichetti’s first men’s show in his new role for Mugler back in January, but last night Gaga graduated from behind the decks to the catwalk.
