Pavers makes Indian venture

Footwear retailer Pavers is making its first foray overseas after signing a joint venture agreement with Indian retail group Reliance Footprint.
Pavers, which has traded in the UK for more than 35 years, will run concessions within Reliance Footprint stores.

Reliance Footprint, a subsidiary company of Indian retail giant Reliance Retail, has three stores in India. It plans to open 30 additional shops over the next 12 months which Pavers hopes will add £5 million of sales to its business.

Pavers is also looking at the possibility of opening standalone Pavers stores in India.

The first concession opened in Bangalore last week. The Pavers range is priced between Rs 999 (£12) and Rs 3,499 (£44).

According to Pavers, during the first few days of trading its product outsold all other European brands in the store including Clarks, Ecco and Geox.
Reliance retail business chief executive Gopalkrishnan Sankar said: “I have dealt with several international brands and we have launched various brands across several retail formats of Reliance, but I must say that we at Reliance are impressed with the immaculate execution of Pavers England.”

Pavers has more than 70 shops in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and is based in Catherine House, a new multi-million pound warehouse and head office in York. The company has sales of £38m in the UK.
