Pearls of wisdom to boost your business

“As a general rule, the most successful man in life is the man who has the best information.” This quote by Benjamin Disraeli is particularly appropriate in these days of information overkill, as there is a huge difference between information and the best information.

“As a general rule, the most successful man in life is the man who has the best information.” This quote by Benjamin Disraeli is particularly appropriate in these days of information overkill, as there is a huge difference between information and the best information.

For many smaller fashion and textile companies, much of the information they need is legally based. They are desperate for good business advice – particularly on issues such as agency law and copyright. However, often they cannot afford expensive legal teams, so glean what they can from the internet and social acquaintances.

But they are unlikely to get relevant specialist advice. This often puts them at a disadvantage and can lead to expensive legal cases.

Another area where the right information is worth its weight in gold is around production. Finding the right factory, in the right region, whether in the UK or overseas, is a massive commitment and companies have to base decisions on lots of diverse information. Often they will need to fail before they succeed in finding the right manufacturing combination.

With exporting, SMEs have a plethora of issues to deal with, including the practical considerations, from logistics to promotion and that all-important back office, while ensuring the brand is “fit to travel”.

Recognising these problem areas, the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UFKT) has partnered with a range of specialists to produce a packed seminar programme. These events are an important part of our work, not only because of the information they impart, but also because they bring the industry together. None of us is ever too old to learn something new and we can all benefit from meeting friends, old and new, from all parts of the industry. For full details, email info@ukft.org.
