Pentland rescues kit supplier

A subsidiary of the Pentland Group has bought sports kit supplier Star Sportswear out of administration.

Pentland also owns the Mitre brand and the deal makes Pentland one of the largest suppliers of sporting goods in the UK.

Star Sportswear supplies kits to amateur football, rugby and cricket clubs and to professional clubs including Surrey Cricket Club.

However the company suffered from cash flow pressure after sales volumes declined last year and administrators KPMG were appointed today.

Pentland acquired the brand shortly after the appointment.

All of Star Sportswear’s 53 employees will transfer to Pentland as part of the deal.
