Pep&Co ploughs ahead with expansion

Pep&Co will press ahead with the next round of store openings next week, with a new branch in Pontypridd, Wales, expected to open on 16 September.

The value chain backed by South African retail billionaire Christo Wiese, which opened 50 stores last year, has opened four concessions in GHM! stores and will open new stores in Cardiff and Doncaster before Christmas.

Ten further Pep&Co stores are also expected to open in the same timeframe, with several more slated for early next year.

Drapers understands the retailer may also be looking at opportunities for stocking apparel in Poundland, which is set to be acquired by South African retail conglomerate Steinhoff, of which Wiese is chairman.

Poundland’s shareholders today voted in favour of the acquisition.
