Philip Day ‘mulls bid’ for Warehouse, Oasis and Coast

The owner of Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group (EWM) is said to be considering a bid for womenswear chains Warehouse, Oasis and Coast.

The retailers were put up for sale last November. Sources told The Sunday Times Day is looking to further expand his empire, which includes Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Peacocks, Jane Norman, Austen Reed and Jaeger.

Other interested parties are said to include turnaround firm Alteri Investors and two South African retail groups, Foschini and Truworths.

Private equity firm Endless, which was previously linked to the sale, told Drapers it was “not progressing any interest to acquire” the three retailers.

Expressions of interest are believed to have come in at between £35m and £55m.
