Polarn O Pyret makes a play for UK growth

Swedish kidswear business Polarn O Pyret plans to double its store count in the UK and Republic of Ireland in the next six years.
The own-label retailer, which sells boyswear and girlswear aimed at newborns to 11-year-olds, as well as maternitywear, already has stores in Brent Cross shopping centre in north London and in Windsor, Berkshire. It launched a new shopfit in its first store outside the M25 at the Westfield Derby centre earlier this month.

The openings will be overseen by franchise partner Odin Retail. Managing director Mats Nilsson said the retailer’s unisex styles and outdoorwear focus had potential in the UK, with plans to reach up to nine stores by 2013.

“There’s nothing like POP here,” he said. “We don’t create little versions of adult ranges – we want to sell clothes that kids would choose.”

The retailer also has concessions in House of Fraser stores in Norwich, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin and on London’s Oxford Street.
