More UK retailers than ever before participated in Black Friday this year in the face of tough trading, despite growing concern about the discounting day’s impact.

Trade has been very positive throughout 2015. Christmas figures were strong with a lift of 28% like for like against last year. I must point out that we refused to take part in any Black Friday or Cyber Monday promotional discounts or activity and we also held a traditional post Christmas sale going live on 27th December in store. In my opinion, Independents should play no part in this discounting that is being pushed by the big department stores and retailers. We must all stick together and maintain our margins and think of other reasons why customers shop with us. We offer customer Service like no other 'big' store can offer and we have product mix at the right price at the right time and I think our growth in figures reflect this. I am both confident and excited about the next 12 months as an Independent fashion retailer.
