PPR boss reacts to death of Alexander McQueen

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive of PPR, which owns the Gucci Group, the parent company of Alexander McQueen, has issued a statement following the death of the British designer this morning.

The PPR statement said: “Alexander McQueen was one of the greatest designers of his generation. His genius, sometimes provocative, but admired and commended by everyone, constantly brought new perspectives. He generated emotion at the release of each one of his collections.”

PPR also owns the Puma sports brand which McQueen collaborated with on several collections.

The statement added: “As a visionary and avant-gardist, his creations were inspired by both tradition and ultra-modernity, making them timeless. His unprecedented collaboration with Puma placed, and shared, his creative talent with a great number of people. Beyond his capacity as a creator, François-Henri Pinault would like to pay homage to a friend for whom he has respect, admiration and great fondness.”
