Fashion sales at John Lewis leapt up 17.2% in the week to May 2 as it price-matched House of Fraser’s ‘Brand Event’ on the Thursday and Friday.
There was also good growth in non-promotional areas, with menswear and sportswear sales performing particularly well, both up 25.5%.
Overall sales including home and electricals were up 2.8% on the same period last year. Sales through Johnlewis.com rose 17%.
Tim Harrison, director of store development at John Lewis, said: “We have started this week off well making the most of the May bank holiday.”
