Primark breastfeeding row woman admits to lying

A woman has admitted she was lying when she accused a Primark security guard of taking her baby from her while she breastfed in a Leicester store.

Caroline Starmer pleaded guilty to a charge of intent to pervert the course of justice at Leicester Crown Court today (September 24). The case was adjourned until December 3.

Starmer claimed a security guard grabbed her daughter from her breast and asked her to leave the Humberstone Gate store in Leicester on July 13. Leicestershire Police investigated.

Primark refuted the claims after viewing in-store CCTV footage.

A Primark spokesperson said:

“Caroline Starmer alleged to police and the press that she was breastfeeding her child in our store when a security guard told her she must cease and forcibly removed the child from her. This allegation was untrue. The company wishes to thank its staff for their patience and understanding through this process. We are pleased to have the opportunity to confirm that Primark will continue to work hard to ensure that all of our customers have a comfortable and enjoyable experience in our stores. This of course includes breastfeeding mothers, who remain welcome, as ever, at Primark.”
