Primark clocked up record sales on the first day of trading at its London Oxford Street store last Thursday. The retailer sold out of handbags and said pinafore dresses were strong sellers. Queuing outside the shop continued throughout the bank holiday weekend. The New West End Company said the opening contributed to increased footfall on Oxford Street, which rose 16% compared with last Easter. For more on Primark, see page 11.
