Public Desire targets US following sales surge

UK footwear etailer Public Desire plans to expand into the US in February after its full-year sales smashed expectations.

Founded in September 2014, the Manchester-based business predicted sales of £3m for the year to January 1 2016, but achieved £9m.

It is targeting sales of £20m this year and expects to turn its first profit in 2016.

The etailer, which sells own-label women’s footwear, is now setting its sights on international expansion and will launch a US website next month.

Existing stockists include Asos.com and it hopes to open international wholesale accounts later this year.

The business credited “strong relationships” with its suppliers in the UK and China with the sales growth. Public Desire said it creates samples within 24 hours of designing them and the products are available on the website three weeks later.

Managing director Qasim Akhlaq said: “To stand out in today’s crowded marketplace we set out to create a brand with a unique identity; with our combination of sought after designs, manufacturing innovation and exceptional social media following we’re now in a strong position to become a leading international footwear brand.”
