SuperGroup yesterday revealed that pre-tax profits jumped 13.1% in the first half with like-for-like retail sales also rising. Drapers talks to the young fashion company’s chief executive Julian Dunkerton to get the low-down.
Q: What drove the growth this time around?
A: We’re better organised, we have Claire [Arksey] now starting to make an impact on the retail side of life. We have Suzanne [Given] making sure the back-end is sorted and the product I’m particularly pleased with.
Q: Which products have been autumn bestsellers?
A: The incredible wind cheater goes from strength to strength, knitwear has done well as have accessories and Fair Isle products. Wintery product such as outerwear, mittens and scarves have been helped by the weather.
Q: What can we expect to see for autumn 13?
A: We made a big leap on for spring and autumn has made another leap. It’s the most comprehensive it’s ever been and it all looks amazing. I think the jackets have once again made a big leap, but everything looks fantastic.
Q: It’s a year on since the first floor of the Regent Street flagship first opened. How are things going there?
A: It’s building and becoming more of a destination. It’s worth its weight in gold in terms of international deals.
Q: How are you feeling about Christmas this year?
A: It’s the busiest time but because it such an important time for us retailers there will be tense tummies until January. But to be in such a positive position now makes me feel very positive.
Q: What are shoppers looking for?
A: Great quality at a reasonable price, which is what I try to deliver.
