British handbag and accessories brand Radley has reported a third consecutive year of strong Christmas trading, with a 7% increase in like-for-like sales for the nine weeks to January 3.

The business, which is stocked by John Lewis and House of Fraser, experienced a 3% like-for-like sales growth across its 33 UK stores. Online sales were up 25% compared with the same period last year, backed up by an 82% uplift in sales from mobile devices.

Radley said the strong performance is the result of an improving product range, broadened appeal and increased focus on customer experience.

Radley chairman Roger Best said the performance comes “despite an increasingly challenging and competitive retail environment.”

The results are the first Christmas update under chief executive Justin Stead, who joined from his role as chairman of in May 2015.

“I’m exceedingly pleased with the performance this Christmas, it’s been a great team effort with lots of renewed energy in the business. We have a very clear vision and strategy and we look forward to exceeding expectations again in 2016,” Stead added.
