Jil Sander creative director Raf Simons is set to leave the label with his last show at the fashion house to be his autumn 12 collection shown at Milan Fashion Week on Saturday.
The company said that the Jil Sander Group and Simons had agreed that he would step down from his position as of February 27.
Jil Sander said it will announce the appointment of a new creative director in the next few days. Speculation is rife that designer Jil Sander, who founded the label in 1968, could step back into the role after reports in German celebrity news magazine Gala that Sander wants to return to the label and could be back within four weeks.
Simons’ next move will also be of upmost interest to the fashion industry with the designer previously linked to roles at both Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. His departure from Jil Sander will add to speculation that he could step into the creative director role at Dior after John Galliano’s fall from grace last year.
Christian Dior declined to comment on the move.
Simons joined Jil Sander as creative director in July 2005 with his first collection men’s autumn 06.
