Rahul Mishra wins International Woolmark Prize

Indian womenswear designer Rahul Mishra has been named the winner of the 2014 International Woolmark Prize.

A judging panel including Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, Vogue Italia editor-in-chief of Vogue Franca Sozzani and editor-at-large of, Tim Blanks, selected Mishra, who will also receive prize money of AU$100,000 (£54,000).

Harvey Nichols will become the sole UK stockist of a wool capsule collection from Rahul Mishra. The department store is one of six global retailers to sell the collection, including, Saks in the US, Colette in France and David Jones in Australia.

Giannini said: “Rahul has won because of his ability to apply his knowledge of embroideries through wool, one of the most versatile fibres with originality in an unexpected way.”

Mishra said: “I feel like this is a dream and this is giving me new hopes for my future career. This award will change the perception of global fashion in regards to Indian fashion and this is all because wool.”

The nominees for the 2014/15 International Woolmark Prize regional competition will be announced in April.
