Ralph Lauren signs deal to be official patron of Open Championship

Premium lifestyle brand and retailer Ralph Lauren has signed a five year partnership with golf’s governing body, the R&A, to become an official patron of golf’s Open Championship.

The agreement, which runs until July 31, 2016, will see Ralph Lauren outfit all officials and staff members at The Open Championship as well as providing a selection of Ralph Lauren RLX Golf and Polo Golf apparel for men and women as well as a selection of Ralph Lauren kidswear in the on-site retail area.

The brand will also create a one-off Polo Golf men’s collection celebrating the Royal Lytham and St Annes 2012 Open Championship.

In addition to the Open Championship, Ralph Lauren will continue to serve as the official clothing sponsor of the US Open Tennis Championships, the official outfitter of the Wimbledon Championships and the outfitter to the US Olympic and Paralympic teams at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Open is the of oldest of the four major championships in professional golf and the only major to be held outside the US, it has been played since 1860.

  • Shouldn't it be a non-American brand inking a deal with the Open Championship if it's the only major to be held outside the US?
