Rampant Sporting put up for sale

Sports heritage brand Rampant Sporting has been put up for sale by British lifestyle brand and retailer Joules.

Joules invested in the university lifestyle clothing brand in 2010 and after working together for two years the label is now sold at stockists including Asos, Very, New Look and Foot Asylum.

However Joules has now said that the company has expanded at a rate that outweighs the current trading climate. In a statement Joules said: “The expansion means that Rampant Sporting now requires the investment of time which currently the Board are unable to offer whilst focusing on realising the potential of new opportunities for Joules.”

Joules said there has already been “significant interest” in the brand and discussions between Joules and potential investors are ongoing. The Rampant Sporting business will continue with its spring 13 forward order book and hopes to secure a new owner in the next month or two.

Richard Hurtley, managing director of Rampant Sporting, said “It’s been a privilege to learn from such a strong multi-channel retailer and now we are at a stage where we need to be able to focus directly on our needs in the next period of growth.”
