Regatta MD moves up ranks of family business

Keith Black has been promoted to chief executive and chairman of his family’s outdoor clothing company Regatta Group after 27 years as managing director of its eponymous brand.

He has replaced his father, Lionel Black, who has now retired but had been chairman since founding the group in 1981. Regatta operates brands Regatta, Craghoppers and Dare2b.

Keith has been replaced at the Regatta brand with immediate effect by Graham Rickard, who has been with the business since 1998.

Rickard began as sales manager and then product and marketing director for Regatta. For the last five years, he has been managing director of Dare2b.

He will continue in this role for the time being, and a new management structure will be put in place for the brand in due course.

Keith Black said: “As Regatta Group grows even further domestically and internationally, it felt like the right time to move into the role of chief executive and chairman, a post I intend to hold for a long time to come.”

As well as existing as a wholesale brand in the UK with 1,650 stockists, Regatta has a number of outlet stores across the UK. It also operates retail outlets in Poland and Ireland. Craghopper has 510 stockists while Dare2b has 212.
