Republic adds American Apparel to the mix

Young fashion chain Republic has added US lifestyle brand American Apparel to its brand mix.

From April 28 the retailer will stock a range of men’s and womenswear from the brand in five of its stores, as well as online. Stores to carry American Apparel will be Meadowhall, Newcastle Eldon Square, Stratford, White City and Birmingham’s Bullring.

The addition of American Apparel to Republic is the latest label to bolster the chain’s brand mix with the recent addition of underwear brand Wonderbra, young fashion label Ringspun and menswear brand Beck & Hersey.

Republic chief executive Paul Sweetenham said: “We’re delighted to welcome American Apparel to Republic and look forward to providing our customers with a range of wardrobe staples that have become the firm’s trademark.

“The addition of American Apparel comes at an exciting time for Republic as we look to develop our portfolio to include new younger brands, as well as strong existing brands, while fostering ties with brands that are unique to Republic.”

Speaking exclusively to Drapers in March before taking up his new role Sweetenham said he is also keen to build strong own-brand ranges. He added: “I’m aiming for a healthier brand mix, evolution, new younger brands, as well as strong existing brands, and also developing ranges with brands that are unique to Republic.”
