Republic stores adopt USC name

Sports Direct will switch 29 Republic stores to the USC fascia by the end of this month, with some units receiving an internal overhaul.

Branches in Westfield’s White City and Stratford shopping centres, Birmingham’s Bullring, Bluewater and Midsummer Place in Milton Keynes are among those being refurbished to include dedicated premium footwear and denim areas.

Brands stocked include denim specialists G-Star, Diesel, Replay and Levi’s, Lacoste and Converse footwear, and menswear labels Weekend Offender and Pretty Green.

In March, USC owner Sports Direct bought a majority stake in Republic after the business went into administration. Sports Direct acquired 116 Republic stores, including all stock and its own brands SoulCal, Fabric and Crafted.

Group sales at Sports Direct increased by 18.2% to £613.3m for the 13 weeks to July 28. Total gross profit rose 23.2% to £260.1m for the period.
