Retail chiefs top pay league

Retail chief executives and finance directors are paid up to 68% more than other sector bosses according to research from BDO Stoy Hayward.

Research from BDO Stoy Hayward collated the salaries of chief executives and finance directors across the 43 listed retail groups in the UK. The findings have been broken down into three pay brackets; upper quartile, median and lower quartile.

The average salary for a retail chief executive in the upper quartile pay bracket is £503,500 versus £320,000 in other sectors.

The average salary of a retail chief executive in the median pay bracket is £332,000, some 30% higher than other sectors.

The average salary of a retail chief executive in hte lower quartile is £261,000, 37% above other sectors.

BDO Stoy Hayward said that retail bosses also fared better in bonus terms. The average upper quartile bonus paid to retail chief executive last year was £338,000 against a sector average of £200,000.
